How to add a watermark to a PDF
Open your PDF
The first page appears as a live preview, so you’ll see changes straight away.
Text or image
Type the words, or choose a logo file. Then set the font, size and colour.
Position it
Centre, tiled across the page, or in a corner. Adjust the angle and opacity.
Apply
Choose which pages get it and download.
Watermark options
Logos with transparency
A PNG logo on a transparent background sits cleanly on the page with no white box around it.
Tiled pattern
Repeating the mark across the whole page makes it much harder to crop out of a screenshot.
Behind the text, if you like
Tick “Place behind page content” and the words of the document stay crisp on top.
Correct on rotated pages
Pages stored sideways still get an upright mark in the right place, which a lot of tools get wrong.
What a watermark will and won’t do
A watermark labels a document and puts people off passing it around. It doesn’t lock anything. Someone with PDF editing software and enough patience can remove an added mark. To make that harder, flatten the result, or require a password to open it with Protect PDF.
The built-in PDF fonts cover English and Western European languages. If your text has other characters (Polish, Greek or Japanese, for instance) we add it as a high-resolution image instead so it still displays properly, and the tool tells you when that’s happening.
Privacy and security
The watermark’s stamped on in your browser. Neither the document nor your logo gets uploaded, and the original’s left untouched: you download a new copy.

Add Watermark FAQs
Can the mark go behind the text?
Yes: tick “Place behind page content”. Leave it off for scanned pages, though. A scan is one solid image, so anything behind it is hidden.
Can I use my logo?
Yes. Choose Image, then a PNG, JPG or WebP. PNGs with transparent backgrounds look best.
Can I skip the cover page?
Type 2- in “Apply to pages” and page 1 is left alone.
